Energy Minister in Bulgaria to discuss joint projects
Energy & Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Güler, who is currently in Sofia for a formal visit, met Bulgarian Economy & Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov.
Main topics of the meeting were "integration of Bulgaria to Shah Sea natural gas pipeline project", "Tundja Dam proposed to be constructed on the Bulgarian-Turkish border" and "Turkey's pipeline construction experiences as a source of reference for Bulgaria".
Speaking in a joint press conference following the meeting, Guler said, "we have a number of joint projects particularly in fields of economy and energy. These projects are being implemented one by one."
Stating that Bulgaria wants to join "Shah Sea natural gas pipeline" project, transferring Azerbaijani natural gas to Italy through Turkey and Greece, "Integration of Bulgaria to Shah Sea natural gas pipeline project is under consideration," Guler said.
Guler also mentioned Suakacagi Dam was proposed to be constructed over Tundja River on Bulgarian-Turkish border and said that the dam is crucial not only for generation of electricity but also for prevention of water floods.
On the other hand expressing their willingness to join Shah Sea natural gas pipeline project, Bulgarian Minister Roumen Ovcharov said, "this will not place great burden on the project. Since there will be a short connection, we find it feasible."
Ovcharov also stated that Turkey is experienced in construction of oil and natural gas pipelines and that Bulgaria wants to benefit from these experiences.

Turkey Wants Bulgaria to Relax Visa Regime
Turkey would like Bulgaria to relax its visa regime for Turkish citizens after it becomes a full-fledged member of the EU.
The issue was discussed during a meeting of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Bulgaria's Disasters Management Minister Emel Etem.
Erdogan expressed his satisfaction with the intense economic relations and the good cooperation between the two countries.
He also expressed his hope Bulgaria to help Turkey harmonise its legislation with the EU standards.
The two ministers also discussed possible agreements between Turkey and Bulgaria on disasters management and mutual aid.
